About Andrew Gordon

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Claremont Hospital and I am part of the Sheffield Orthopaedics Ltd Consortium. My NHS work is based at the Northern General and The Royal Hallamshire Hospitals.

I qualified from Sheffield Medical School in 1997 and completed my higher surgical training in Sheffield and the surrounding area. Before my Consultant position, I trained as a Fellow with Mr. Andrew Manktelow and Mr. Peter James in revision hip and knee replacement surgery at Nottingham University NHS Trust.
Currently, I serve as the Deputy Clinical Director (Elective Orthopaedics) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and was the Lower Limb Arthroplasty Clinical Lead for many years. I am also the Regional Chair of the Major Revision Knee Network, and I am on the National Steering Commitee. This Network improves patient outcomes and reduces complications by standardising the care pathway and fostering transparency and governance.
In 2012, I earned a PhD in immunobiology and genetic risk factors for aseptic loosening after total hip replacement. My PhD work has received both national and international awards, including the William Harris Hip Award in the USA.
I have published in numerous journals, including The Lancet.
I am currently a senior trainer and mentor of the Cavendish Fellows, a prestigious and specialised program designed to provide advanced training in revision hip and knee joint arthroplasty.
Presently, I am a Consultant in the Lower Limb Arthroplasty Unit at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a centre for both simple and complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. Sheffield remains a quaternary referral centre for highly complex revision cases.

A belated but no less sincere thankyou for the excellent job you did on my hip. Also my thanks to all your team who looked after me so professionally; a special mention to Stuart (anaesthetist) whose running commentary was a pleasant and informative distraction from the activity beyond the screen. I am just getting back to swinging (gently) a golf club, so all is progressing well. Once again a very big thank you. BR.
